White Lady Chardonnay

White Lady Chardonnay by Warwick Estate is warm and inviting nose with hints of orchard blossom, citrus, apricot, peach, and spices. The palate is powerful and rich with great structure, baked apple, toasted almonds, and freshly baked brioche, all kept in check by tangy acidity. Ready to enjoy now but will develop well and reward careful cellaring over the next 5-7 years.

Grapes are from specifically-selected Stellenbosch sites. Two of which are on the Helderberg, these add more freshness and acidity. Then one from Warwick on a warmer West facing slope of the Simonsberg, which adds textural and structural elements and some floral lift to the wine. All three vineyards are picked separately at different ripeness levels to add complexity. Whole bunch pressed and juice allowed to clear naturally before transferred to 228L Burgundian French oak barrels for fermentation. 32% new oak, 26%
second fill, 37% third fill, 5% forth fill and the balance in neutral oak. Barrels are rolled once a month for nine months before a tight selection process and blending early in 2021. Light filtration before bottling in February 2022. Released in June 2022.

Pair with grilled line fish with roasted tomatoes and fresh greens.

Warwick Estate is a family-owned and run winery. Managing Director Michael Ratcliffe is the 3rd generation family member to oversee this high quality boutique operation. From 1771 till 1902, Warwick was known as the farm ‘De Goede Sukses’. After the Anglo Boer war ended in 1902, Colonel William Alexander Gordon, Commanding Officer of the Warwickshire regiment bought the historic farm. He renamed it ‘Warwick’ as a tribute to his regiment and the rest, as they say, is history. Stan Ratcliffe purchased Warwick on April 1st 1964 after an extensive search for the best ‘terroir’ in the Cape. Together with his wife Norma, they soon realized the potential of the extraordinary property and began planting Cabernet Sauvignon. The Cabernet Sauvignon vines produced high quality grapes, which were soon in demand from neighbouring wineries. Norma became more and more interested in the making of wine and began to study the subject. Soon a cellar was in place and Norma began producing her own handcrafted wines using the Warwick grapes. Warwick Estate has implemented an (environment friendly/biological) approach to produce top quality grapes each year. A few years ago the farm started to refrain from using pre-emergent herbicide in their vineyards.
